Grand Opening Celebration for new Teen Health Center
Hackley Community Care Center, in partnership with Muskegon Public Schools, invites the public to the Open House Celebration for their new Teen Health Center at Muskegon High School. The event takes place on Thursday, November 4th from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Renovation to a former shop classroom in the high school’s freshmen wing is the site of the new Teen Health Center. The Teen Health Center will have internal and external access to at risk adolescents aged 10-21 years of age and will be open all year long, with hours appropriate to serve the needs of all adolescents of Muskegon County.
Early conversations of this idea began several years ago. In 2009, a dedicated group of visionaries that included parents, teachers, staff and community organizations, came together and worked tirelessly to make the Teen Health Center happen.
There is much research and documentation that shows the benefits of Teen Health Centers in relation to the health and overall well being of adolescents. Teen Health Centers also support the reduction of absenteeism and truancy rates, reduced suspension from in-school altercations and reduced STI and pregnancy rates over time.
Services will include clinical medical services, mental health counseling and dental care. These services will coordinate with, and supplement health promotion and health education programs within the school district.
The Teen Health Center is conveniently located on the campus of Muskegon High School to support the families and children of Muskegon County.
The Teen Health Center Open House will provide parents, adolescents and community agencies the opportunity to tour the new facility, meet the staff and new providers. The event is open to the public and will feature talents of Muskegon High School students and a special tribute to the late Janeane Morrissey.
We also give special recognition to our generous donors. It is because of their commitment and dedication to the adolescents of Muskegon County, that the Teen Health Center is also made possible: ALCOA Howmet. Community Foundation of Muskegon County Youth Advisory Council, Gerber Foundation, Muskegon Oceana Community Action Partnership, Inc., Ronald McDonald House Charities of Outstate Michigan, Safe Schools Healthy Students, United Way Muskegon County, Great Start Collaborative of Muskegon County, Hackley Community Care Center and Muskegon Public Schools.
