Dean sees blight fighting as his first priority, followed by increasing the customer service quality of the departments. Dean also suggested at Monday’s meeting that he hopes to make the inspections department a “revenue-neutral” area of the city government.
The Muskegon County Medical Control Authority awarded each firefighter certificates for “exemplary work in AED and CPR”. These are only awarded to people when the recipient of their treatment is released from the hospital in a healthy state.
From budget documents, the city anticipates $6,109,828 in revenues and $5,975,597 in expenditures in 2012. This leaves a $134,231 operating fund balance. Under the umbrella of Public Safety, the city’s police and fire departments have a budget of 2,813,084, which includes grants received by both departments and is roughly 47% of the city’s total expenditures.
The four candidates discussed topics of public safety, consolidation, image perception issues and communication between the city and other parts of the community, including Muskegon Heights Public Schools.
The City of Muskegon Heights will replace its 23-year old pumper engine with a new one, and it will be build by Alexis Fire Equipment of Alexis, Illinois. The grant received from FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security for $311,500 will cover the whole cost of the vehicle.
