FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MUSKEGON SUMMER CELEBRATION ENDS 19 YEAR RUN
Festival won’t be back in 2012
OCTOBER 27, 2011
The Muskegon Summer Celebration Board of Trustees has decided not to bring the festival back in 2012. Citing the past few years as being tough financially, the Board felt it could not risk further financial set backs. “This has been an extremely agonizing decision for the Board,” said Bryon Mazade, Board Chair. “We looked at different plans and ideas to move forward, but didn’t feel we could overcome past debt.”
The Board would like to thank the many sponsors who have been so critical over the years and made the Summer Celebration possible. “We’ve been able to offer very affordable main stage entertainment and an array of other activities to all of West Michigan,” said Board President Tim Achterhoff. “The sponsors have been the ones that allowed the festival to bring in the great entertainment names we’ve seen at Heritage Landing for the past 19 years.”
The Trustees would also like to thank the many volunteers whether serving on the Board of Directors, serving on a committee or just helping during the event. “The Summer Celebration has been one of the biggest if not the biggest volunteer effort in Muskegon,” declared Joe Austin, Executive Director. “There were years when volunteers logged over 24,000 hours to execute the event. Muskegon is blessed to have such generous people giving of their time – many throughout the year – to produce this event.”
A plan has been developed by the Board of Trustees to allocate the remaining funds to our vendors with outstanding invoices. We want to thank the many vendors that have worked with the festival management to provide the necessary infrastructure, services, and supplies.
Lastly the patrons must be thanked for their support. We hope we have provided some great memories that fans will never forget. There has always been a maximum effort to provide a safe, customer-friendly, and enjoyable experience. Your patronage has been appreciated.
