Shooting that occurred around 8:30 pm last night
Officers of the Muskegon Police Department are investigating a shooting that occurred around 8:30 pm last night in the area of Merrill and Fifth Streets in the City of Muskegon.
The victim, a 26 year old Muskegon man, is being treated for gunshot wounds to the thigh and abdomen. He underwent surgery early this morning at Mercy Health Partners Hackley Campus and is listed in stable condition.
The victim is not cooperating with officers at this time and we have no reason to believe that this shooting is connected to a previous shooting on March 16, 2010 where two subjects were struck by gunfire.
It is unknown who fired the shots or where they came from. The victim was standing near a vehicle at the time the shots rang out and he took off running. He did not know he had been hit until shortly after fleeing the area. He flagged down a car was transported to the hospital by the unknown motorist.
Offices are requesting that anyone with information call the Muskegon Police Department at 231-724-6750 or call Silent Observer at 231-722-3524.
