Chris Brown Sues Ample, LLC, and Warner Bros. for $500 Million Over Defamatory Documentary

Los Angeles, CA – Singer and songwriter Chris Brown has filed a $500 million lawsuit against Ample, LLC, Warner Bros., and individuals involved in the production of the documentary Chris Brown: A History of Violence. The suit, filed January 21, 2025, in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleges defamation and the reckless disregard for journalistic integrity in the creation and release of the documentary.

Brown’s legal team, McCathern, Shokouhi, Evans, contends that the documentary knowingly presented false and misleading information, including allegations of sexual assault and evidence tampering that had been previously discredited in court. They argue that the filmmakers prioritized profit over ethical reporting, disseminating debunked claims to increase viewership and revenue, thereby damaging Brown’s reputation.

Central to the lawsuit is the documentary’s portrayal of Daisia Chantel Frank (“Jane Doe”), whose accusations against Brown are described as having been thoroughly discredited years prior. Frank herself has a documented history of domestic violence, and the lawsuit claims that any interaction between Brown and Frank was consensual, supported by numerous text and voice messages. The suit asserts that the production companies knowingly elevated Frank’s discredited claims, despite possessing evidence to the contrary.

Attorney Levi McCathern stated, “This case is about protecting the truth. Despite being provided with evidence disproving their claims, the producers knowingly disregarded their ethical obligations and undermined not only Mr. Brown’s efforts to rebuild his life but also the credibility of genuine survivors of violence.”

Brown is seeking accountability for the exploitation of misinformation and intends to donate a portion of the potential $500 million settlement to survivors of sexual abuse. His 2017 documentary, Chris Brown: Welcome to My Life, is presented as the definitive account of his experiences.
