Knights of Columbus To Host Youth Free Throw Tournament Saturday 1/14

The competition is free and is open to all area youth ages 9 to 14, both boys and girls. Each competitor will shoot 15 free throws, and the top shooters will continue until a winner is decided. Winners of the competition will have the chance to go on to regional and even state level competitions.

200 Turkeys and Other Food Distributed By 103.7 The Beat and Community Partners

103.7 The Beat did the turkey giveaway with support or cooperation from several partners including Pepsico, Cole’s Quality Foods and Meijer stores. Project Homeless Connect provided supplies as well, a collaborative that involved Michigan Works!, 211, Goodwill, and Care Source.

Muskegon “Love Note” Initiatives Get Support From City, Fees Waived – Snowboard Inventor Statue Event Coming Up Saturday

This summer, the Foundation (CFFMC) gave out $3,000 total for what it called “Love Notes” – relatively small things or actions to add value to the Muskegon community. Kenneth Johnson used his $500 as start-up cash to organize “Play it Forward”, a large, multi-performance music coming up Saturday, 11/12. It will raise money for a sculpture honoring the invention of the snowboard in Muskegon.

Summer Celebration Will Not Return in 2012

The Muskegon Summer Celebration Board of Trustees has decided not to bring the festival back in 2012. Citing the past few years as being tough financially, the Board felt it could not risk further financial set backs.

Drumline Live Brings Movie, Historically Black College Marching Band Tradition To The Stage

DRUMLINE LIVE, a show-stopping attraction created by the music team behind 20th Century Fox’s hit movie Drumline, brings show-style marching bands to the theatrical stage. An international tour based on the Historically Black College and University marching band tradition, this marching band extravaganza is coming to DeVos Performance Hall on Sunday, November 13th at 7PM.

City of Muskegon and Muskegon Public Schools Bring Back Youth Basketball and Open Gym, But Not Open Swim

With Tuesday’s vote, the gym and basketball components of the program will return starting in October and will run from this month through March 2012. The City of Muskegon will put up $18,500 to fund the program from its Leisure Services budget, which is in line with last year’s costs.
