Muskegon Police Department Investigates Large Fight At Muskegon High School

Muskegon Police Department is investigating a large fight that broke out at Muskegon High School, 80 W. Southern Ave. The School Resource Officer (SRO) was at the school and attempted to break up a fight between two female students in the cafeteria when another male student attempted to interfere. The SRO radioed for assistance and responding officers, along with Muskegon High School staff, broke up a half dozen more fights and detained at least 9 other students. It is unknown at this time what started the original fight.

HEALTHY Muskegon Project Announces Grant Awards

Families and children living in the City of Muskegon and Muskegon Heights will have many new opportunities to access healthy, local foods, thanks to $240,000 in grants recently awarded by the HEALTHY Muskegon initiative. (HEALTHY is an acronym for Healthy Eating and Access – Local Teams Helping Youth). The three-year grants, administered by the Community Foundation for Muskegon County in partnership with Morse Marketing Connections, LLC, are supported by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Grants were selected based on the goals of increasing access to healthy local food, improving health behaviors, and improving health outcomes for minority children living in Muskegon and Muskegon Heights.

MUSKEGON HEIGHTS PUBLIC SCHOOL ACADEMY SYSTEM BOARD MEMBERS RECOGNIZED

Muskegon Heights Public School Academy System has recognized three board members. State Senator, Geoff Hansen attended the February 25, 2013, Muskegon Heights Public School. Academy System Board of Education meeting to present special recognition to the Board of Education members. The Muskegon Heights Public School Academy System was created in July 2012 and currently serves 1,189 students – kindergarten through grade twelve.
