This Summer’s Getty Street Rebuild To Run From Evanston to Keating; One Section Going To Local Contractor

After last year’s work on multiple sections of Getty Street, more reconstruction of the main thoroughfare will happen this summer.

Muskegon’s City Commission voted unanimously on Tuesday to authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to sign a contract with MDOT to reconstruct Getty from Keating Avenue to Laketon Avenue.

They also voted unanimously to award a contract to Muskegon’s own Jackson-Merkey Contractors to rebuild Getty Street from Laketon to Evanston.

Jackson-Merkey was deemed the lowest responsible bidder of those who applied for the job.

$375,000 of the $525,000 needed for the Laketon-to-Evanston section will be funded by Transportation Economic Development Fund dollars from the state.  This program is designed to improve roads linking to Michigan state highways, like US-31 and Apple Avenue, or M-46.  The other $150,000 will come from the city’s budget.

This summer’s overall rebuild from Keating to Evanston will increase the total amount of rejuvenation Getty Street has received in the past several years.

The City of Muskegon Heights repaved and improved a section north of Sherman Boulevard last year.

The City of Muskegon also made improvements from Apple north towards its Muskegon River termination point near the L-3 Communications complex.
