Project FRESH Family Fun Day July 13
Project FRESH Family Fun Day July 13
Muskegon, MI – Project FRESH, an annual event for participants of the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program, will take place in Muskegon County on Saturday, July 13 from 8:30 am until 12:30 pm at Public Health Muskegon County. Project FRESH is an educational program that offers coupons to WIC participants to use for Michigan grown fresh fruits and vegetables redeemable at authorized farmers’ markets and roadside stands.
During this year’s event, a limited number of coupon books will be issued to Muskegon County WIC participants with each book containing $30 worth of coupons. The coupon books will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis. Fewer coupons are available this year due to sequestration.
Project FRESH is a partnership between the Public Health Muskegon County WIC program and the local Michigan State University Extension office. MSU Extension teaches participants how to select fruits and vegetables, where to purchase them, how to prepare them safely and offers nutritious recipes. The WIC program recruits participants, issues the coupon books and Public Health Muskegon County processes the coupon reimbursement for authorized farmers.
While Project FRESH coupons are only available to WIC participants, other activities during the event are open to the entire community. These activities include trolley rides from the public health department to the Muskegon Farmers Market, an inflatable bounce house and Dragon Ride N’ Slide, mini train rides, a small animal petting zoo, children’s activity stations, and information booths promoting the services of various local agencies and organizations. This is an event for the whole family and community to enjoy while promoting the WIC program. WIC program participation is based on income and number of dependents. WIC is an equal opportunity provider and employer.
