Press Release: Update on Boil Water Advisory

Date: April 25, 2024   12:00 PM

**Immediate Release**

The City of Muskegon Heights Department of Public Works continues to address the recent system pressure drop, which remains a concern for our community. As we work diligently to resolve this matter, we are providing important updates on our ongoing response efforts and safety precautions for our residents.

Current Status:

The boil water advisory is still in place. Residents are urged to continue boiling all water for one minute and let it cool before using, or use bottled water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and preparing food.

Update on Response Efforts:

  • The supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system issues have been identified as unrelated to any outside intrusion.
  • No issues were caused by other construction and maintenance projects in the city’s water system.
  • Hydrant flushing and water quality testing began this morning. Residents may experience cloudy or rusty water due to the flushing. This is a normal part of the process and not a cause for concern.
  • Due to the extensive nature of the flushing required, our first samples are now expected to be returned on Friday.
  • In compliance with safe drinking water standards sampling will be conducted over the next few days.

Water Distribution Updates Muskegon Heights Farmer Market:

  • Today’s Bottled Water Pickup: Water will be available for pickup this evening from 5 PM until 7 PM at designated locations.
  • Friday’s Bottled Water Pickup: Water will be available on Friday from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at designated locations.
  • Volunteers are still needed to assist with loading and unloading of water.

Acknowledgements:

The mayor and city council would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the community partners who have assisted us during this time. Your support has been invaluable in managing this situation. Partners include but are not limited to Meijer, Spartan Nash, Webb Chemical and many more.
