Muskegon and Orlando Students Return from Life-Changing Trip to Egypt and Ghana
Seven students from Muskegon, MI, and one from Orlando, FL, have successfully completed a transformative journey to Egypt and Ghana. The group returned home on July 6th, 2025, after a culturally immersive experience.
The trip, sponsored by 103.7 The Beat in Muskegon, Michigan, and 98.5 The Wire in Orlando, FL, is part of an ongoing initiative that, since 2017, has provided over 50 high school students with the opportunity to travel to Africa for free.
The trip, designed to broaden horizons and foster cross-cultural understanding, took the students through a carefully curated itinerary that included:
Egypt: Exploration of ancient wonders such as the Giza Pyramids, Sphinx, Sakkara Pyramid, and Valley of the Kings. They also visited the Civilization Museum and the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
Ghana: Visits to historical sites such as the Cape Coast Slave Castle and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. The students also experienced Ghanaian culture through a naming ceremony at Abeadze Traditional Village and visits to local markets.

“This trip was an incredible opportunity for these students to learn about different cultures and histories firsthand,” said Paul Allen Billings . “Thanks to the generous support of Muskegon, Michigan we are able to provide these life-changing experiences to deserving students.”
The journey included a layover in Paris, France, where the students enjoyed a city tour. The group traveled via Delta Airlines and Air France, ensuring a safe and comfortable journey.
The students and organizers express their gratitude to the local communities in Egypt and Ghana for their warm hospitality and willingness to share their culture.
