“Local Honor Roll Students Earn Free Trip to Africa”
Muskegon, MI (June 16, 2019) – It will be a life changing trip for six local students from the Muskegon area and two students from Orlando, FL. Thanks to the vision of local leader Paul Billings and the generous donations of several community members and organizations, student will embark on a once in a lifetime journey to Ghana, West Africa on Wednesday, June 19, 2019. The all-expenses paid trip includes airfare, hotel accommodations, passports and visas, vaccinations, and food.
Upon arrival, students will be greeted by natives of the country and began exploration in Ghana. They will experience various cultural cuisines, languages and beaches. They will also have the opportunity to tour the US Embassy, a slave castle, African villages and interact with members and peers from traditional villages. This will be a chance to learn about African culture, past and present.
There is no movie or book that can provide what first-hand experience offers. Students will walk away with a greater appreciation of another culture, creating lifelong friendships, embracing the travel experience and trying new things. Sponsored by 103.7 the Beat, M106-FM and 98.5 The Wire, the trip is rewarded to students who have worked hard in school and in the community. According to Billings, “the only thing the students are asked to contribute is the promise to utilize what they have learned upon their return to help make their community a better place.”
