Free Gun Lock Delivery Initiative in Muskegon County Promotes Safe Firearm Storage
MUSKEGON, Mich. – Trinity Health Muskegon, in collaboration with
the Muskegon Police Department, is proud to announce a community initiative aimed at
promoting safe firearm storage in Muskegon County. This initiative coincides with the
implementation of Michigan’s firearm safe storage laws. Gun lock delivery will be
provided now through March 31, 2024, or until supplies run out. The distribution of free
gun locks to residents of Muskegon County underscores the importance of responsible
gun ownership and safe storage practices in preventing firearm injuries, suicides, and
homicides.
Residents of Muskegon County are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to
secure their firearms safely. To obtain a free gun lock, visit
www.storeitsafemuskegon.org and fill out the gun lock request form.
“Our partnership with Trinity Health Muskegon reflects our shared commitment to the
safety and well-being of our community,” stated Chief Tim Kozal, public safety director
for the City of Muskegon. “By providing free gun locks and promoting safe storage
practices, we aim to empower residents to take proactive steps in preventing firearm-
related incidents.”
Furthermore, the initiative emphasizes the importance of communication and education
surrounding firearm safety. Families are encouraged to discuss safe storage practices
with their children and inquire about firearm safety measures in homes their children
may visit.
“The research underscores the crucial role safe firearm storage plays in safeguarding
our children, families, and communities,” said Holly Alway, injury prevention coordinator
at Trinity Health Muskegon. “Michigan’s safe storage laws prioritize safety and
responsibility in every Michigan household. This gun lock delivery program will help
ensure a safer community for all residents.”
