It has been decided in the November 3rd election that Kimberly Sims will be the next Mayor of Muskegon Heights, Sims gathered 37 percent of the votes, the runner up was former councilwoman, Dorothy Scott, followed by Bonnie McGlothin and Eddie Jenkins.
The first order of business Sims says she will undertake is to make sure that everyone on the council is on the same page and that they are a unified front. Sims has already served the city of Muskegon Heights for 12 years. She hopes to bridge the gap between the city government and the community members.
Along with Kim Sims new members of the Muskegon Heights Council have also been elected, incumbent Vernell Smith was reelected and will stay on the council, the new comers are Kellie Kitchen and Marshall Cook.
The new Mayor and council members will be sworn in at the next Muskegon Heights Council meeting which will take place on Monday November 9th.
As the current Mayor Darrell Page steps down he will be honored by all the council members for his 25 years of service in Muskegon Heights, and city employees have gifted him a plaque to commemorate his years in service to his city.
