City of Muskegon Heights
Press Release: Update on Boil Water Advisory
Date: April 24, 2024
Immediate Release
The City of Muskegon Heights Water Department continues to address the recent system pressure drop caused by a malfunction in the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system, initially reported on April 24, 2024. As our community works diligently to resolve this matter, we are providing an important update on the current status and necessary safety precautions for our residents.
Current Status: Water pressure has been restored across Muskegon Heights. However, until further notice, the boil water advisory remains in effect. We urge all residents to follow the safety instructions below to ensure their health and well-being.
Safety Instructions:
- DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Please boil all water for one minute and let it cool before using, or use bottled water.
- Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and preparing food.
Ongoing Response Efforts:
- Our city staff have identified and are addressing the issues related to the pressure loss.
- Activities related to resolving this issue, including water testing, are underway to ensure that our water meets or exceeds safety standards.
Bottled Water Availability: To assist residents affected by the advisory, bottled water is available for pickup at the local farmers market from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM today and will resume tomorrow at 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM. This will continue until the boil water advisory is lifted. We strongly encourage residents to take advantage of this resource.
Anticipated Resolution: We are working around the clock to resolve this issue, and the boil water advisory will be lifted once samples confirm that the water is safe for consumption. Official notifications will be issued once normal water use is confirmed to be safe.
