Black Bear Sighting

May  13th, 2013

The Muskegon Police Department is investigating a sighting of a “black bear” that occurred earlier today in the City of Muskegon. At 9:25am the bear was last seen near the bike path on the Grand Trunk property walking in a southwest direction. The bike path has been closed until further notice in that area.   The Muskegon Police Department is working with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to contain the bear at this time.

The investigation is ongoing. If you observe the bear do not approach, make your presence known, retreat to a safe area, and call 911 to report the location.  Your cooperation and patience is appreciated until the bear is either captured or has left the area under its own accord.
