Arson with Possible intent to Murder
At 12:17AM this date, officers of the Muskegon Police Department were dispatched to a reported house fire at 773 Marcoux Ave. in the City of Muskegon.
Upon arrival, they found a woman and children outside of the home and smoke coming from inside of the home. Officers were told that a man may still be inside and they entered to find the woman’s boyfriend still inside attempting to put out the fire. It was later determined that the man had attempted to burn down the home while his live-in girlfriend and their four children were sleeping.
The woman had awoken to find the man pouring gasoline around the inside of the home and they began to struggle over the gas can. During the struggle, gasoline from the can splashed on the man and woman. The man then ignited the fuel poured in the house and both he and the woman were also caught on fire.
The 32 year old man is at Spectrum Health Burn Center being treated for 3rd degree burns over most of his body. The 30 year old girlfriend was treated at Mercy General Health Partners for 1st degree burns to her legs.
The children in the home at the time were ages 16, 14, 11 and 5 years of age and were not injured in the incident.
The incident remains under investigation at this time and charges are pending.
