Muskegon Heights Marching Band Earns Praise for Coast Guard Festival Appearance

After rumors that the band would not make an appearance, Muskegon Heights High School’s marching band is coming off an energizing weekend after performing in Saturday’s Coast Guard Festival parade.

Board trustee and band parent Trinnell Scott detailed some of the major details of the parade at Monday night’s board meeting.

“The people there were just so excited to see our band,” said Scott.  “It’s really great to see people in Grand Haven have an appreciation of the Muskegon Heights marching band.”

Scott noted that a district employee who lives in Grand Haven closed off part of her block to host the students, feeding them lunch, putting a tiger mural on the street and cheering them on.

On top of great crowd responses, the band collected about $900 in donations on Saturday, according to Scott.

District Superintendent Dr. Dana Bryant acknowledged rumors were circulating the band would not march this past weekend.

He stated that the post-weekend response he personally received was very positive.

“I’ve received lots of good emails today about our band!”

2011’s fall marching season will continue on Saturday September 10, when the city and district’s Back To School Parade will feature the band.

All home football games will also feature performances by the band, which will be led by a new director this year.
