Muskegon County Residents Affected by April Flooding Urged to Apply for FEMA/SBA Assistance by August 31

MUSKEGON, MI – Muskegon County Emergency Management is reminding residents affected by April storms and flooding that they may qualify for FEMA/SBA disaster assistance. Residents are encouraged to apply before the August 31, 2026, deadline.

“Many Muskegon County residents are still recovering,” said Renee Gavin, Muskegon County Emergency Manager. “Anyone who sustained damage from the April storms and flooding should apply as soon as possible. Even residents with insurance may qualify for FEMA/SBA assistance for eligible expenses not fully covered by their policy.”

Assistance may help cover temporary housing, home repairs, personal property losses, medical and childcare expenses, vehicle damage, moving and storage costs, accessibility-related repairs, and other eligible disaster related needs. Assistance is determined by each applicant’s circumstances and eligibility requirements.

Apply for FEMA/SBA assistance in person: Muskegon County Marquette Campus – West End Conference Room, located at 1903 Marquette Avenue, Door 43, Muskegon, MI 49442, from Thursday, July 30, 2026, through Monday, August 3, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Apply for FEMA assistance online: The fastest way to apply is online at DisasterAssistance.gov (Español: DisasterAssistance.gov/es), through the FEMA App, or by calling 800-621-3362.

When you apply, have the following ready:

✔️ Contact info (phone, mailing address, email, damaged home address)

✔️ Social Security number

✔️ General list of damage and losses

✔️ Annual household income

✔️ Bank info (for direct deposit)

✔️ Insurance info,

if insured If you have homeowners, renters, or flood insurance, FEMA can’t duplicate what insurance covers but may help with what it doesn’t.

Apply for SBA online: Online at sba.gov/disaster Questions? Call SBA at 800-659-2955 (dial 7-1-1 for relay services) or email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov Residents who met with an assessment team earlier this year must still submit an official application. A damage assessment does not automatically register a household for assistance.

Muskegon County Emergency Management strongly encourages all eligible residents to complete the application process before the August 31, 2026, deadline. Timely submission will help ensure that applications are reviewed in accordance with the eligibility requirements and that residents are able to connect to available recovery resources.
