Diversity Statement
WUVS 103.7 The Beat since 2002 have trained high school students and allowed internships each semester, fall, spring and summer to actively engage students in radio broadcasting and multimedia and as a means of creating a database of student workers as vacancies arise.
To fulfill this, WUVS is a training site for the broadcast industry in the areas of: on-air announcing, public affairs programming, music programming, administration, marketing, production, and management through the WUVS Internship/Mentorship Program. Interns are recruited from the community to include individuals who are participating in an accredited broadcasting program such as Grand Valley State University & Muskegon Community College and individuals who have experience in broadcasting or natural skills and talents for radio. Each intern’s skill level is assessed to determine their individualized training needs.
We are always active in recruiting youth from all of our local schools.
Students are provided the opportunity to assist WUVS staff to acquire training in the areas of production, front office administration, sales and traffic, communications and public relations.
We also sponsors and produce this area largest job fair where we try to recruit those who have an interests in Broadcasting.
As openings arise, the station shares ongoing information with other public media colleagues in Michigan and across the country to tap ready qualified candidates.
