The New York Times first reported that Obama called Mamdani on Saturday, which was confirmed later to Reuters through a Mamdani spokesperson, Dora Pekec. “Zohran Mamdani appreciated President Obama’s words of support and their conversation on the importance of bringing a new kind of politics to our city,” Pekec said. Judge largely blocks Trump’s executive orders ending federal support for DEI programs

A federal judge on Friday largely blocked sweeping executive orders from President Donald Trump that seek to end government support for programs promoting diversity, equity and inclusion. U.S. District Judge Adam Abelson in Baltimore granted a preliminary injunction blocking the administration from terminating or changing federal contracts they consider equity-related. Abelson found that the orders likely carry constitutional violations, including against free-speech rights. Trump signed an order his first day in office directing federal agencies to terminate all “equity-related” grants or contracts. He signed […]

The New York Times’ roundtable of Black men who support Trump was exactly as bad as you would think

Editor’s note: The following article is an op-ed, and the views expressed are the author’s own. Read more opinions on theGrio. It was really painful to read the New York Times’ new roundtable with 11 Black men who like Donald Trump. I almost never hear Black Trump supporters give reasons for supporting him that make sense in the real world. It’s like they live on a planet where up is down. I went into this roundtable expecting more of that. Any time I […]

Trump wants Black and Latino support. But he’s not popular with either group, poll analysis shows

WASHINGTON (AP) — As he prepares to accept the Republican nomination for the third time, Donald Trump has promised new efforts to expand his coalition — and, in particular, to win over more of the nonwhite voters who largely rejected him during the 2020 election. But an AP analysis of two consecutive polls conducted in June by the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research shows that about 7 in 10 Black Americans have a somewhat or very unfavorable view of […]
